Vokey Tour Grinds

Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges offer the best of tradition and technology. The soles have all been hand ground by Master Craftsman Bob Vokey based on his experiences working with the best players in the world. The profile of each wedge has been precisely created using CAD to perfectly blend the size, shape, topline thickness and offset through all the lofts offered. Additionally, Titleist's high performance Spin Milled technology provides a perfectly flat face, precisely machined groove and face texture.

Through his years as a wedge designer for Titleist, Voke has developed a number of different high performance sole grinds. "Everybody is a little different," Bob explains. "Each player has a little different technique, a little different style. It requires us to have different sole options on the wedges we make, and I know that's just what we have done (at Titleist)."

The following is a guide to Bob's different sole grinds that are featured both with the in-line Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges and in special limited edition wedges available through the Vokey.com website.

M Grind
The M Grind was Voke’s first and features a crescent-shaped forward bounce surface and relieved wrap surface. The sole relief reduces ground drag and provides easy-in/easy-out performance from the turf and sand regardless of the angle of attack and face angle. The relief also improves and encourages shot making by keeping the leading edge close to the ground as the head rotates from square to open, preventing the wedge from sticking when a shot is played from the open position. The toe relief allows chip shots to be played with the toe down and heel raised. Additionally, the relieved sole design provides stability on full shots by equalizing the heel and toe pressure through impact. The M Grind is a versatile design suitable for many playing styles in a variety of course conditions, and served as the inspiration for the sole designs of the Spin Milled 58-08 and 58-12.

T Grind
The T Grind is named for Titleist Brand Ambassador Tom Pernice, Jr. based on Voke’s work with Tom. Derived from the M Grind, the T Grind features a much narrower forward bounce surface with minimal camber, therefore playing with less effective bounce than M Grind wedges. With thin, flat soles and low effective bounce, T Grind wedges are suitable for players with shallow angles of attack who prefer to pick the ball cleanly, and work well in firm conditions. The T Grind served as inspiration for the sole designs of the Spin Milled 60-04 and 64-07.

E Grind
Developed by Voke with a former Titleist Brand Ambassador, the E Grind features a narrow to medium sole with full bounce surface and straight relief along the trailing edge. Slight heel camber allows the blade to be easily opened for shot-making versatility. The moderate effective bounce and full bounce surface with camber make the E Grind another versatile wedge suitable for a wide variety of playing styles and conditions. The E Grind served as inspiration for the sole designs of the Spin Milled 60-07 and 62-07.

TK Grind
The TK Grind also derives its name from Voke’s work with a former Titleist player. It features the widest sole of the special grinds with enhanced camber for a sole profile that combats digging. The width and camber of the TK sole grind reduce effective bounce without eliminating its anti-dig benefits. The medium-wide sole with enhanced front-to-back camber and heel-to-toe radius make the TK Grind a shot-maker’s wedge that is suitable in all conditions from both the sand and turf. The TK Grind served as inspiration for the sole designs of the Spin Milled 58-04 and 60-10.

TVD Grind
TVD stands for "Tour Vokey Design," although some refer to them as "Tour Van Design." The TVD Grind features a slightly narrower forward bounce surface with slightly more camber than the M. Camber allows the club face to more easily pivot around its center for versatility when opening or closing. TVD provides high performance from all turf and sand conditions.

L Grind
The L Grind was developed by Voke and a former Titleist Brand Ambassador, whose nickname inspired the grind designation. It features the narrowest forward bounce surface of all the special grinds with very little camber. This narrow crescent shaped bounce surface reduces the effective bounce making it excellent for firm conditions and for slider-sweepers.

V Grind
The V Grind is named for Bob's work with a Tour player. It features a narrower bounce surface than the M but with more bounce angle and less camber. Voke's Tour-proven heel, toe and trailing edge relief coupled with the additional bounce makes the V Grind a versatile choice for soft conditions and for driver-diggers.
