After rallying late in Friday's second round just to make the cut, Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory Mcllroy played nearly flawless golf over the weekend to win the Quail Hollow Championship for his first career PGA Tour victory. Just days shy of his 21st birthday, Rory went 5-under over the final five holes on Sunday to close with a course record 10-under 62, topping the nearest competitor by four shots. He capped his magical round by converting a 40-foot putt on the final hole to finish at 15-under 273.
...(read more)Several LPGA players made good use of their proximity to Titleist's West Coast operations this week with visits to the Scotty Cameron Putter Studio and Titleist Test Facility in Oceanside. Pro V1 loyalist Meaghan Francella made stops at both locations, working with master wedge craftsman Bob Vokey at the Test Facility on some new wedges and with Scotty and crew at the Putter Studio to customize her putter. Here's what she had to say about her visits:
I had a 52, 56, and 60 degree wedge set to start. Now I have a 50, 54, and 60. I was struggling with control. I could land the ball where I wanted to, but it just didn't grab and I wasn't as close to the hole as I expected to be. I play graphite shafts in my irons, but Voke's not a big fan of graphite shafts in the wedges. With the steel shafts, he adjusted the overall weight by taking some off the trailing edge as well as a little off the leading edge. They're still a little heavier than my old wedges, but they are really good. We chose the TVD grind, and once we established what I needed, he took my wedges, and he did the grinding himself. I was like, "I have to play these, they are just going to be so good now." I was nervous to put new wedges in the bag the week of a tournament, but they are great. I practiced a little late Monday, and played with them Tuesday and I am really happy.
I also went to the Putter Studio and worked with Paul on Monday morning. I like the Del Mar putter from the California series, and they hooked me up with this custom one. It was an amazing experience that few people get to have, I am incredibly fortunate.
Pro V1x loyalists Heather Bowie-Young and Christina Kim also made trips to the Putter Studio early in the week. Heather games a Tour Del Mar 3.5 that is shorter than standard, so the Studio crew added some very custom tungsten weights during her visit. Christina's visit was a follow-up to one she made in February, and she and Scotty had some fun with the collectibles Scotty displays around the Studio. Click on the image below to get an inside look at some of the gear.

Titleist Pro V1 loyalist Meaghan Francella also plays AP2 irons and Vokey Design wedges. Click here to view the slideshow.
Titleist Brand Ambassador and LPGA Tour rookie Mariajo Uribe is set to make her first start of the year at this week's Kia Classic presented by J Golf. The 20-year-old from Bucaramanga, Colombia turned professional last summer after a stellar amateur career that included a victory at the 107th United States Women's Amateur Championship, a top ten finish at the 2008 U.S. Women's Open, and two years of collegiate golf at UCLA. She qualified for the 2010 tour via her T-12 finish at the 2009 LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. Team Titleist caught up with Mariajo this week at the La Costa Resort & Spa to ask her a few questions about herself and the upcoming season. We'll also be checking in with her throughout the year to provide updates on her progress as a rookie on the LPGA Tour. Following the interview is an image gallery featuring the Titleist equipment she has in play. Good luck this season, Mariajo!
Team Titleist: When did you arrive in town?
Mariajo Uribe: I came in early to go to the Scotty Cameron Putter Studio on Friday, I think it was my third visit there. I love it. I have three putters...I am spoiled now!
TT: You gap your wedges from a 46 to a 52 to a 60. To many people, that would seem like a big gap.
MU: I set up my wedges based on the course. If it is a short course, I will do 46, 52, 56, 60 and take out a hybrid, either the 21 or the 24 depending on the shots I will need to hit that week. I played all my life with the 52 and the 60, mixing in the 56 is a new thing. This 46 degree goes 115 yards, this 52 goes about 95, so it is about a 20 yard gap. A lot of people have the big gap between their 9 iron and pitching wedge, I just have it here.
TT: Tell us about your irons.
MU: I got these new AP2s in January, but I played the original AP2s before that. I have been a Titleist girl forever, since 2004, I think. In Colombia not a lot of girls use Titleist because they think of them as men's clubs. But they are really good, I play great with them. It's been getting bigger, especially with Camilo out there. Now all the kids play Titleist because it seems like all the good players use Titleist. I am very happy with my clubs and want to stay with them hopefully through my whole career because that is what has worked so well for me in my amateur career. I am not going to switch for anything.
TT: Is this your professional debut?
MU: I played the Sun Coast about two weeks ago in Daytona, but this feels like my first. It is the beginning of the LPGA season.
TT: Have you set specific goals for yourself in your first season on the LPGA Tour?
MU: My goal this year is Top 20 in the Rolex World Ranking. That will be a hard thing to do, especially because there are not a lot of tournaments. So I have to get in these early events and play well if I am going to achieve that. It motivates me.
TT: Coming off a stellar amateur career, what have you noticed as major differences in your early professional career?
MU: Well a big difference is JUST playing golf, and practicing more; being able to focus only on my golf without having to worry about school and midterms and all that stuff. That has been really good, trying to get more focused on my game. Another difference is that this is more like work. Before there was just one tournament, one shot at winning, and that was fun, but I like this because I have another event next week or the week after. Before it was just one shot at a big tournament, and if you didn't do well you may have to wait until next year, but now I have a lot of weeks to have the opportunity to go out and play well.
TT: Are you prepared for the travelling?
MU: Yes, I am used to it. College wasn't that much different, we would be out for a week or two and then back for a week. But I like it, it keeps it fun. Plus I am back at home, so it makes it easier when I get to go back to Colombia on the off weeks.
TT: Speaking of Colombia, the golf spotlight has shone there of late. Camilo Villegas just won his third PGA Tour event, is he someone you admire?
MU: Definitely. Camilo is a huge thing in Colombia. Not only is he a very good golfer, he is a good model to follow on how to be a good person. I really like him and hopefully I can do as well as he does with everything.
TT: Camilo was home a couple weeks ago to help kick off the inaugural Nationwide Tour event in Colombia. Would you like to see an LPGA event in Colombia?
MU: Yes! For sure! That was a big step for us, getting a three year commitment for a Nationwide Tour event. Hopefully we can have a women's event as well. Perhaps we will start with a Futures Tour event and then the LPGA will follow. That would be a lot of fun...it would be even better if I am playing really good.

Team Titleist was on site at the Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort earlier this week in preparation for the Transitions Championship. With only three weeks to go until the 2010 season's first major, several Titleist Brand Ambassadors are in the field at the Transitions looking to sharpen their games for Augusta. Be sure to check out the image gallery below to get a look at Titleist Brand Ambassadors Bill Haas, Nick Watney, Johnson Wagner, Brendon de Jonge, and Bo Van Pelt in action during Tuesday's practice day.
Titleist Brand Ambassador Bill Haas discussing drivers with Titleist Tour Rep Chris Tuten.
Team Titleist was on site early this week at TPC Blue Monster at Doral for the WGC-CA Championship. We caught up with several players during the practice days, including Titleist Brand Ambassadors Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy, and Ross Fisher. Adam recently received a new Vokey Design Spin MIlled C-C wedge with his personal logo engraved on the toe of the sole. Be sure to check out the image gallery for some more pictures of Adam's equipment. There are also a couple of interesting shots in the image gallery that feature the wedge of a recent winner on the PGA Tour. This Vokey wedge loyalist has been working with the Tour Team on a new custom grind for his 60-10, and you can see that some "notes" were taken on the sole. Interestingly, this player also places a label on his wedge shaft that notes his yardages with that wedge for half, three-quarters, and full swings. Again, be sure to check out all of the images in the gallery, and let us know what you think.
Adam had his logo engraved on the toe of his Vokey Spin Milled C-C 260-06.
Titleist Brand Ambassador Brett Wetterich returns to action this week at the Honda Classic, 21 months since he last teed it up on Tour at the 2008 Memorial Tournament. Since that event, Brett has been sidelined by numerous injuries to his shoulder, wrist, and knee. Playing this season on a major medical exemption, the 2006 EDS Byron Nelson Championship winner has 17 events to earn enough money to keep his exempt status. For more on Brett's return to the PGA Tour, be sure to check out Craig Dolch's article on PGATour.com.
The Titleist equipment in Brett's bag reflects the fact that he has not had the opportunity to test much of the new gear released during his absence. With the new groove regulations in effect as a condition of competition on Tour this season, though, Brett has moved into the new CB irons and Vokey Design Spin Milled C-C wedges. Vokey Tour Representative Aaron Dill worked with Brett earlier this week and noted that "Brett was having some trouble with spin and launch and with his 60 degree digging too much. We went to more bounce and tried the SM1 56-14 and SM2 60-10." After working with the wedges during his practice rounds, Brett noticed dramatic improvement over his previous wedges.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Robert Karlsson continues his return to form, having recently won the Commercialbank Qatar Masters on the European Tour. After a successful 2008 season during which Robert captured the European Tour Order of Merit and rose to number six in the Official World Golf Rankings, the lanky Swede missed four months during the heart of the 2009 season due to an eye injury. With the win and several other strong results since returning to competition late last year, Robert is back inside the top 20 of the OWGR. Always looking to improve, he worked with the team from the Titleist Tour Van during the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship on an adjustment to his set composition resulting from the new groove regulations.
Practicing and playing with the new 2010 conforming grooves in his wedges over several months, Robert has found that his Vokey Design Spin Milled C-C 60° produces a higher trajectory and shorter carry distance than did his previous Vokey 60° wedge. With four wedges in his bag as well as a long game yardage gap between his 18° 909F3 and MB 4-iron, Robert and the team decided it was time to fit him into a set composition with tighter yardage gaps while allowing for the requisite short game versatility.
Robert had been playing his MB irons with 1° strong lofts (6-iron at 30°). To bridge the gap between his 18° fairway and 4-iron, the team built him an MB 3-iron at standard 21° loft and adjusted his 4-iron back to standard at 24°. The remainder of Robert's irons were adjusted to 1° weak, with his pitching wedge at 48°.
Next, the team built Robert several sets of wedges to help him determine the correct models, lofts and bounce angles to meet his short game needs. Robert worked with all of the wedges in the short game practice area, hitting the various shots he needs for his game, and determined that a 53° and 58° set-up was ideal. Robert previously carried 49°, 55° and 60° wedges in addition to his strong pitching wedge.
Details on the Titleist equipment in Robert Karlsson's bag:
Ball: Pro V1x
Driver: 909D2 (9.5°, Aldila RIP 80X, 45")
Fairway: 909F3 (13°, Grafalloy ProLaunch Red X, 43.25" tipped to length)
Fairway: 909F3 (18°, Grafalloy ProLaunch Red X, 42.25" tipped to length)
Irons: MB (3-P, 1° weak loft (5-P), True Temper Dynamic Gold SL X100, +1" length, +2° lie)
Wedge: Vokey Design Spin Milled C-C TVD 54 (at 53°, True Temper Dynamic Gold SL X100, 37" length, 66° lie)
Wedge: Vokey Design Spin Milled C-C TVD 58 (True Temper Dynamic Gold SL X100, 37" length, 66° lie)

!--more-->Much like countryman Marc Leishman, Titleist Brand Ambassador Michael Sim also spent a portion of his practice days for the Farmers Insurance Open visiting the various Titleist facilities near Torrey Pines Golf Course to help him prepare for his 2010 PGA Tour season. Michael hopes to continue the strong form that saw him capture the 2009 money title/Order of Merit on both the Nationwide Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia, Player of the Year honors on the Nationwide Tour, a "battlefield promotion" to the PGA Tour courtesy of three wins on the Nationwide Tour, and a spot in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
Michael worked with Titleist fitters at the Acushnet Test Facility on Wednesday to help with a wedge gap fitting as well as a 2-iron replacement. He told his fitter that there was too much of a yardage gap between his AP2 9-iron (+1/4" and 43° loft) and Spin Milled C-C 248.06 (standard length and bent to 47° loft). After testing several pitching wedge variations on the launch monitor, Michael was fit into a Spin Milled C-C 248.10 at +1/4" and standard loft. His yardage gap between the two clubs was reduced from 18 yards to 12.
Making his return to the States from playing back home in Australia, Michael was also looking for a club to replace the 695CB 2-iron he had been gaming. Michael told his fitter that the 2-iron was a good club in Australia, but not as good on the PGA Tour due to the low trajectory and shallow landing angle. He prefers the look of irons rather than hybrids at address, though, so the team built him an older Tour Prototype 503i with a Project X 6.5 shaft that matches his irons. After a few shots on the launch monitor with the new utility iron, it went straight in the bag for this week's event.
Michael's final stop before heading back to Torrey Pines for the tournament was at the Scotty Cameron Putter Studio. Here's what he had to say about the visit after his round Friday:
"I've been rolling the putter tremendously the last two days. I went to the Scotty Cameron studio on Wednesday afternoon and had a look at my putting stroke with Paul Vizanko, and it wasn't as good as what it was last year when I went in there, and managed to correct that in probably 20 minutes. Yeah, just rolled the ball pure the last two days, and even with the greens a little bit bumpy with the Poa and the amount of rain they've had, it didn't really affect my ball. I've probably got to thank him a lot for that."
Despite a rough start on Thursday (4-over through three holes), the preparation seems to have Michael on form once again. He finished Thursday's round on the difficult South Course strong to get back to 1-over 73, and after a sizzling 10-under 62 on the North Course on Friday, he finds himself only two shots back heading into the weekend.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Michael Sim preparing
for his first start of the 2010 PGA Tour season.
Titleist Brand Ambassador Marc Leishman visited the Acushnet Test Facility in Oceanside, California this week as he prepared to compete in the Farmers Insurance Open at nearby Torrey Pines Golf Course. Marc is entering his second full season on the PGA Tour, and he's looking to improve upon his 2009 Rookie of the Year campaign that included eight top-25 finishes, over $1.7 million in earnings, and a trip to the season-ending TOUR Championship. Qualifying for the TOUR Championship also earned Marc a spot in this year's Masters Tournament, and he had Augusta National in mind as he worked with the Titleist fitters at Oceanside this week.
First, Marc was fit for a 19° 909H hybrid to replace his Tour-only AP2 2-iron. Marc has been a 2-iron player for a number of years, and it's a club that performs well in the firm, fast, and windy conditions of his native Australia. On the PGA Tour, however, Marc needs a higher launching and softer landing trajectory for long distance approach shots that the 2-iron was not delivering. After working with both steel and graphite shafts in the 19° 909H, Marc went with the UST Mamiya Axivcore Tour Black Hybrid 100X and put it straight into the bag this week at Torrey Pines.
Marc also spent some time working with different lob wedges. He is currently using a Vokey Design TVD 58, but feels that he catches the ball too high on the face from time-to-time. The fitters had him try a few different wedges with less bounce, and Marc left with a 60-L bent to 58°. Although that wedge isn't in the bag this week, don't be surprised if you see it once conditions get a bit firmer on Tour.
Finally, the fitters had Marc try a few driver/shaft options to help him turn the ball over more easily. Marc predominately plays a fade and typically likes to eliminate the left-hand side of the golf course, but mentioned that he wouldn't mind having the option of moving the ball from right-to-left for a certain tournament in early April. Using the SureFit system, Marc was able to quickly try out a few different shaft options and determined that the Graphite Design Tour AD DI-6X (now available through Titleist Custom Clubs) performed similarly to his current gamer with the added workability he was seeking. Like the new wedge, this new driver set-up didn't make it in the bag this week, but we're sure Marc will be working with it in the coming weeks as he gets closer to his first round starting time in Augusta.
What's in Marc Leishman's bag this week at the Farmers Insurance Open:
Ball: Pro V1x
Driver: 909D2 (8.5°, Oban Devotion 6X)
Fairway: 909F2 (13.5°, Oban Devotion 8X)

Wedges: Vokey Design Spin Milled C-C 248.10 (bent to 47°), Spin Milled C-C TVD 54 (bent to 53°), Spin Milled C-C TVD 58 (all wedges with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100)

The desert oasis that is the Abu Dhabi Golf Club welcomes the European Tour for the fifth playing of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. This event marks the start of the European Tour’s "Desert Swing" - a series of events which also sees the Tour visit Doha and Dubai over the coming weeks. This three-tournament swing has become more and more popular with the players over the years thanks to a combination of perfect weather, excellent golf courses and generous prize funds. For many, Abu Dhabi marks the start of the 2010 season and many of the world's top players, including Titleist Golf Ball loyalists Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson and Titleist Brand Ambassadors Rory McIlroy and Geoff Ogilvy, are in the field. McIlroy is now undoubtedly one of golf's hottest properties following a sensational 2009 season while Ogilvy comes to Abu Dhabi having already claimed victory at the PGA Tour's season-opening SBS Championship.
Here is a full list of Titleist Ambassadors in the field this week:
Geoff Ogilvy
Rory McIlroy
Robert Karlsson
Soren Hansen
Gregory Bourdy
Tano Goya
Rick Kulacz
Michael Hoey
Martin Erlandsson
Seve Benson
Pablo Larrazabal
Mikko Ilonen
Paul Waring
Brett Rumford
Kenneth Ferrie
The aforementioned Rory McIlroy will be seen far less on the European Tour this season having committed to play more golf on the PGA Tour. That said, however, he is in the field in Abu Dhabi this week as he gears up for the defense of his title at the Dubai Desert Classic in two weeks. Rory is fast becoming one of the most consistent performers in world golf, a point emphasized by a remarkable 14 top-ten finishes in 2009, and he is once again in contention after two rounds in Abu Dhabi. Rounds of 66 and 69 have Rory well inside the top-ten at 9-under-par just two strokes off the halfway lead at the time of writing. Rory comes into the event having made an equipment change with the new Titleist MB irons going into play. The MB irons are proving very popular on Tour and Rory joins the likes of Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy and Robert Karlsson in making the switch to the new irons.

Final word in this week's Blog goes to a name that will be new to many of you - Rick Kulacz. Rick joins the European Tour as a full-line Titleist Brand Ambassador and is embarking on his first full season after securing his card at European Tour Q-School back in November. A native of Perth, Western Australia, Rick has been playing on the Asian Tour since turning professional back in 2007 and, following success on the Asian Tour including a victory at the 2008 Brunei Open, Rick is now eager to test himself against the best that the European Tour has to offer. He has certainly made a more than competent start to his rookie season with a top-5 finish at the Africa Open in just his second event of the season. At the time of writing, Rick's form is getting better and better! Following an opening round of 69 (-3), Rick has produced arguably the round of his life to post a stunning 63 (-9) and lead the event by a single stroke. The round included eleven birdies, seven of which came in the final nine holes of the round. The Titleist team would like to wish Rick all the very best for his debut season but judging from the start he's made, it doesn’t appear that he will need it! Way to go Rick!
!--more-->Geoff Ogilvy, the defending champion of the SBS Championship, enters the season-opening, winners-only event as the newest Titleist Brand Ambassador. Geoff agreed to a multi-year deal that includes playing the Titleist golf ball, Titleist golf clubs, wearing Titleist headwear and carrying a Titleist golf bag. He will also wear a FootJoy glove and shoes.
